How often should you blog for SEO?

Publishing frequency matters less than most advice says, and consistency matters more. A realistic cadence for a small site, and why one good post a week wins.

The honest answer is: as often as you can publish something genuinely useful, on a schedule you will keep. For most small sites that is one post a week. Not because Google counts posts, but because a steady rhythm is what builds a body of useful pages over months.

Frequency is not a ranking factor

Google ranks individual pages on how well they satisfy a search. Posting daily does not earn a bonus. What frequency does is give you more pages that can each rank for something, and more reasons for Google to crawl the site often. Both only work if the pages are good.

Why most blogs stop

  • No list of what to write next, so each post starts with a blank page.
  • Posts take too long because every one is researched from nothing.
  • No reminder, so a busy week turns into a silent quarter.

The cadence you pick should survive your busiest month, not your quietest.

A cadence that works for one person

WhenWhat
Once, up frontPlan eight to twelve posts around searches your buyers type
WeeklyWrite and publish one post from the plan
MonthlyCheck Search Console for searches you appear for but do not answer
QuarterlyRefresh the posts that are close to ranking

The planning step is covered in keyword research for a new site, and the refresh step in updating old blog posts.

Expect it to take a while

A new post can be indexed within days, but rankings on a young site take weeks to months to settle. That is the real reason consistency matters: the blog has to still exist when the early posts start working. See how long it takes to rank on Google.

SEO Blog Writer is built around a weekly rhythm: it keeps a calendar in your project, reminds you when a week has passed, takes the next topic from the plan, and asks you one question only you can answer before it writes.

Questions

Does Google reward sites that post more often?

Not frequency for its own sake. Google ranks pages on how well they answer a search. More good pages give you more chances to rank; more thin pages do not help and can hurt.

Is one post a week enough?

For a small site, yes. One useful post a week is about fifty a year, which is enough to cover a niche in depth. Keeping it up for six months matters more than a burst in the first month.

What if I miss a week?

Nothing happens to your rankings. The risk is that one missed week becomes the end of the blog. A calendar and a reminder keep it going.
